A New Week, A New Rejection

Dear Miriam,

Today I was offered a job, but in the interest of keeping up this blog I declined. That said, the job was as a receptionist at Ashley & Martin, Australia's leading hairloss treatment company. Providing natural hair regrowth is their specialty.

Obviously I need a bloody job, but dealing with a never ending stream of men with varying degrees of inventive comb-over is not my idea of career progression.
To tell you the truth, I can't even remember what job this was!

Dear Miriam

Thank you for your interest in the General Application position.

Due to the large response we have received for this advertisement, we have had to be very specific in our criteria for establishing a short list for first interviews. Unfortunately, we are unable to include you in interviews for this position at this stage. Should our first round of interviews not provide us with the appropriate candidate we will review your application and contact you accordingly.

Additionally, we will keep your resume on file and should another position become available which meets your experience, we will contact you.

In future, should another of our advertised positions interest you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you once again for your application and we wish you all the very best in your job search.

Yours sincerely

Rejected by Phone

Today I was rejected by phone. In wonderful 'don't call us we'll call you' style I finally got an answer after four attempts .. you have to love begging for rejection. Apparently despite interviewing well and 'fitting the image' for this pretty basic retail position, there was some 'seriously qualified' candidates with some 'serious experience' who were better suited ..

Hi Miriam

I'm just clearing out my inbox and it looks like I never replied to this email! If so, I'm really sorry. I really appreciated the fantastic response, and thank you so much for your interest. I have now hired someone but all of the candidates were excellent so it was a tough choice.

I'm really sorry for the horribly delayed response.

Take care
Hi Miriam,

Thanks for your email. In what was a very hard decision, I've offered it to another author who was also pitching heavily for the job. It was very close between you both, so sorry it hasn't worked out for this time. Hopefully we can work together at some time in the future.

Best,
Hi Miriam,

Sorry but we don't need any more people right now,

Apologies
Dear Miriam,

Thank you very much for applying for the position of Casual Proposal Writer. Unfortunately, I do not have good news.

I received an unanticipated response both in terms of quality and quantity to the newspaper and Internet advertisements, which made the selection process for candidates to interview very competitive.

Miriam, I know that you met the criteria in many ways.  There were however, applicants who were an even closer match to the position.  I would not like you to see this as a rejection of your background by any means.  It reflects, instead, the competitive nature of the field in response to this advertisement.

Because I value your interest, I would like to retain your CV on file for a period of six months in the event that an appropriate position becomes available again.  Please let me know if you do not wish us to keep your CV on record.

Thank you once again for your interest and I wish you every success in your job search endeavours.

Yours sincerely,
Hi Miriam

Thanks Mirriam,

I'll let you know if a suitable gig becomes available.

Warmly,
Hi Miriam

Thanks for your note. Unfortunately we have no casual work at the moment and the situation is unlikely to change for some time because of the financial situation.

Hi Miriam

Thanks for the email.
I wish I could help, but I don't know how.
Keep in touch and good luck.
Hi Miriam,

Apologies for the late response - we are fully peopled at the moment, but send me a CV and I'll keep you in mind - others around here occasionally ask for CV's / names - you never know..

Regards,
Miriam,

Sorry not been in touch; been overseas for 6 weeks and just got back to many thousands of emails and voicemails. will work my way through them in coming weeks.
Thank you for your application for assignment number 14BDGO06.

The standard of applications received were very high and we regret to advise you that your application was not successful. We encourage you to apply in the future.

Feedback for your unsuccessful application can be provided via telephone on either the 23rd or the 24th of August upon request. Please contact us prior to the 19th August 2005 to register your interest.
Hi Miriam

I heard from XX today that he's lined up another person.

I'm really sorry about that - I tried, but as I suspected he made the call by himself and, I think, with an eye to maintaining his team.  As far as I'm aware there aren't any other unfilled positions but I'll keep my eye out/ear to the ground in case anything does.

Sorry again.

Hi Miriam,

Thanks for you CV.

As per our discussion, we don't have anything at the moment, but should something arise and we'll be in contact.

Kind Regards
Hi Miriam

I'm sorry I thought someone would have contacted you directly by now.  I've been advised that they've filled the position internally (we didn't have a lot of influence here as a number of internal programs were recently cut).

I'll keep you in mind for anything else that may pop up down the track.

Regards
