I heard from XX today that he's lined up another person.

I'm really sorry about that - I tried, but as I suspected he made the call by himself and, I think, with an eye to maintaining his team.  As far as I'm aware there aren't any other unfilled positions but I'll keep my eye out/ear to the ground in case anything does.
